Brazil's consumer inflation picks up pace in September

ISTANBUL

Brazil's consumer inflation picked up pace in September on both annual and monthly bases, according to figures released Wednesday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
Consumer inflation rose 4.42% in September year-on-year, accelerating from a 4.24% annual gain in August.

The figure, however, came in slightly lower than market estimates of 4.43%.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose 0.44% in September, also accelerating from a decline of 0.02% in August.

The market expectation for the monthly figure was to show an increase of 0.46%.

In September, housing prices rose 1.8% on a monthly basis, while food and beverages posted an increase of 0.5%.
