ISTANBUL
The Dow Jones industrial average hit a new record on Wednesday, while the US stocks opened the session on a mixed note.
The blue-chip index, which includes 30 prominent American companies, rose 170 points, or 0.42%, to reach 41,125 at 10.21 a.m. EDT (1421GMT).
The S&P 500, on the other hand, lost 58 points, or 1.03%, to 5,608. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, plummeted 418 points, or 2.26%, to 18,090.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, surged 5.8% to 13.96. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.7% to 4.190%.
The dollar index fell 0.5% to 103.76 while the euro increased 0.34% to $1.0934 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold losing 0.03% to $2,467 per ounce and silver decreasing 2.4% to $30.47.
Oil prices were up around 1.4%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.86 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $81.04.
