German manufacturing industry sees rise in new orders in September
New orders up 4.2% in September after declining 5.4% in August, month-on-month
ISTANBUL
New orders in the German manufacturing industry were up 4.2% on a monthly basis in September, the federal statistical authority Destatis said Wednesday.
In August, new orders posted a monthly decline of 5.4%, Destatis said.
The jump in new orders in manufacturing in September stemmed from substantial growth in the transport equipment sector (aircraft, ships, trains, military vehicles).
"Due to several large-scale orders, new orders in this sector more than doubled (+117.1%) from the previous month," it added.
The rise in new orders in the automotive industry (+2.9%) also contributed to the increase in the month, while declines were seen in the manufacture of basic metals (-10%) as well as machinery and equipment (-3.6%).
On a yearly basis, new orders rose 1% in September after a 3.4% decline in August.
