ISTANBUL
Economists expect the global inflation rate to remain high until 2028, according to a new survey released on Tuesday.
The survey, conducted by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) and the Swiss Economic Institute (KOF), predicts that in 2025, the average worldwide inflation rate would be 3.9%.
Global inflation is predicted to fall to 3.5% in 2026, economists said, adding in the long term up to 2028, inflation expectations are also at 3.5%.
Additionally, economists forecast that regional variations in inflation rates would be significant.
Inflation in 2024 was lower than the global average in Western Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia, at 2.1%, 2.6%, and 2.9%, respectively.
At 7.4% for South Asia, 33.6% for South America, 37.2% for North Africa, and 27.6% for East Africa, inflation forecasts for 2025, however, are higher than the global average.
Some 1,398 economists from 125 different countries participated in the survey.
