ANKARA
Electric cars nearly doubled their market share in the July-September period, compared to the same period of last year, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) revealed on Friday.
The market share of battery electric cars and plug-in hybrids reached 9.8% and 9.1%, respectively, in the third quarter of this year, up from 4.9% and 5% in the same quarter of 2020, the ACEA said in a statement.
"Registrations of hybrid electric passenger cars accounted for 20.7% of the total EU market during the third quarter, surpassing diesel to become the second most popular powertrain option in the bloc for the first time," it said.
Conventional petrol and diesel cars continued to lose ground, contracting by 35.1% and 27.8%, respectively.
