Nasdaq, S&P 500 retreat from record highs to end 7-day streak

ISTANBUL 

The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 retreated from their record-high levels to close Thursday with losses and ending their seven consecutive trading days of winning streak.

The S&P 500 climbed to an all-time high level of 5,642.45 points during the session, but ended the day with a loss of 49 points, or 0.88%, at 5,594.54.

The Nasdaq also reached to a new record of 18,671.07 points in the day, but finished the session with a massive decline of 364 points, or 1.95%, at 18,283.41.

The Dow Jones industrial average, on the other hand, was up 32 points, or 0.08% to close at 39,753.75.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 0.54% to 12.92. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 1.74% to 4.204%.

The dollar index declined 0.55% to 104.47, while the euro rose 0.33% to $1.0866 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 1.8% to $2,412 per ounce and silver increasing 2% to $31.42.

Oil prices were up around 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.67 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $83.03.
