Tesla's Shanghai factory has exported its first batch of Megapack energy storage batteries, just over a month after production began.

"The first batch of Shanghai-made Tesla ultra-large commercial electrochemical energy storage system Megapack set sail today," the company announced in a Weibo post on Friday.

These Megapacks, each storing about 3,900 kWh of electricity (equivalent to the capacity of 62 Model 3 rear-wheel drive cars) officially shipped to Australia, the company noted.

The Shanghai factory, which began operations on February 11, is expected to produce up to 10,000 Megapacks annually.

This output translates to nearly 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage, sufficient to supply electricity to approximately 50,000 Shanghai households for a year.

The construction of Tesla’s Shanghai mega-factory battery plant was completed with a $202 million investment and eight months of construction on an area of 200,000 square meters.
