Turkish iron/steel producer Tosyali Holding's subsidiary in Algeria has made a world record with a daily production of 7,700 tons of direct reduced iron (DRI).

The world's largest DRI producing module was put into use last November in the holding's factory, named Tosyali Algerie, it announced on Wednesday.

"Tosyali Algerie broke a record by reaching 7,700 tons of daily DRI production in just 8 months," the holding said.

Fuat Tosyali, the CEO of the holding, said Tosyali Algerie is the largest steelmaker in Algeria with its 4 million tons of molten steel production capacity.

Tosyali Algerie is expected to export 150,000 tons of iron/steel this year, he said, adding: "We target to raise these figures to 600,000 level in 2020 with new logistics facilities."

"DRI is the product of the direct reduction of iron ore in the solid state by carbon monoxide and hydrogen derived from natural gas or coal," according to International Iron Metallics Association.

Tosyali Holding is one of the world’s giant iron/steel producer with 25 manufacturing plants on three different continents, according to the holding’s website.
