ANKARA
Turkey's Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the country's banking watchdog, has appointed Mehmet Ali Akben as its new chief, according to the government's official gazette on Friday.
Akben had been a member of Turkey’s Savings Deposit Insurance Fund board, another banking regulator.
Former BDDK chief Mukim Oztekin stepped down on Nov.12, 2014 due to health issues and passed away at 50 on May 2.
The BDDK had been run by Mutalip Unal, Vice President of the watchdog, until Friday.
Akben, 54, has previously held a leadership position at bank Kuveyt Turk
