Turkey: Train travel restarts amid normalization

ANKARA

Turkey on Thursday restarted high-speed train service as part of its normalization with the novel coronavirus on the wane.

At a ceremony in the capital Ankara, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoglu called the move another important step in Turkey’s normalization process.

Though the trains will run at 50% capacity, ticket prices will stay the same, he added.

With the resumed service, masks, social distancing, and hygiene are all indispensable for the “new normal,” so wearing a mask at all stations and trains will be mandatory, he explained.

He also emphasized that Turkey will start service with its domestic-made electric train as soon as possible.

Turkey is seeing more and more recoveries from COVID-19, according to Health Ministry data released on Wednesday.
