ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 1.38 percent to close at 113,156.08 points with a trading volume of 7 billion Turkish liras ($1.7 billion). 

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1,581.46 points from Friday's close of 114,737.54 points, while it opened Monday at 115,425.57 points.

During trading hours, benchmark index hovered between 112,510.91 points and 115,465.01 points while 13 stocks on the index were up, 81 were down and six were flat compared with the previous close. The total market value of listed shares on the BIST 100 was 706.5 billion Turkish liras ($174.3 billion) at Monday's close. 

The banking and holding sector indices went down by 1.61 and 0.50 percent, respectively. On a daily basis, all sector indices finished lower while the BIST textile leather index performed the worst, falling 5.21 percent.

Shares of conglomerate Bera Holding (BERA) were the top gainer with a 4.07 percent hike, while stocks of event and congress organizer Flap Kongre Toplanti Hizmetleri (FLAP) suffered the most for a third business day in a row, falling 19.92 percent.

The BIST 100's most traded listed companies were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, polyester producer Sasa, private lender Garanti, followed by gold miner Koza Altin and electronic appliances manufacturer Vestel. 

The USD/TRY exchange rate stood at 4.0620 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) Monday, compared with its previous close of 4.0340. 

The euro/lira exchange rate climbed to 5.0040 by market close versus 4.9480 at Friday's close, and one British pound traded for 5.7550 Turkish liras while the GBP/TRY rate was 5.6920 at the previous close. 

The BIST Gold Exchange index rose by 0.45 percent at the daily close. In the Precious Metals and Diamond Markets of Borsa İstanbul, one ounce of gold traded for $1,330.00 as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) Monday, while it was $1,324.00 at the previous close. 

As of 6.03 p.m. local time (1503GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at $68.57 per barrel, hovering between $67.20 and $68.66 during the day.
