The jobless figure in Turkey rose by 300 thousand from June 2012 to the same period this year, according to figures released today by The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). This represents a rate of 8.8 percent, and takes the total official jobless figure to 2 million 525 thousand people across a population of 75 million in the country.
"The unemployment rate is 8.8 percent with a 0.8 point increase. The non-agricultural unemployment rate is 11 percent with a 0.8 point increase and the youth unemployment rate is 17.1 percent with an increase of 1.4 points," the report said.
TurkStat said, "the labour force participation rate (LFPR) for Turkey is 51.9 percent with a 1.1 point increase the in June 2013 period compared to the same period of the previous year."
