S&P 500 almost flat, Nasdaq rises 0.34%; oil prices down more than 1.5%

US stocks mixed, Dow falls after 4th weekly gain

ISTANBUL

The US stocks opened Monday mixed as the Dow Jones was down after posting four consecutive weekly gains.

The blue-chip index fell 134 points, or 0.33%, to 40,455 at 10.52 a.m. EDT.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, added just two points, or 0.04%, to remain almost flat at 5,461 after the index fell 0.8% last week.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 60 points, or 0.34%, to 17,418 at the time. The tech-heavy index recorded a 2.1% loss last week.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the "fear index," rose 3.4% to 16.94. The 10-year US Treasury yield declined 0.4% to 4.185%.

The dollar index increased 0.4% to 104.74, while the euro fell 0.4% to $1.0814 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on decline, with gold losing 0.25% to $2,382 per ounce and silver decreasing 1% to $27.63.

Oil prices were down more than 1.5%, with global benchmark Brent crude priced at $79.05 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $75.92.
