Heavy rainfall in southwestern Connecticut triggered flash floods, prompting widespread rescue operations, while severe storms in New York City disrupted flights and train services, authorities reported on Sunday.

Severe storms significantly disrupted parts of the northeastern US, with heavy rainfall in Connecticut causing flash floods and prompting widespread emergency response efforts.

The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued flash flood warnings for southwestern Connecticut, particularly in Fairfield, New Haven, Litchfield, and Hartford counties, as rivers swelled and water levels continued to rise.

Local authorities urged residents to remain cautious, warning of ongoing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and further flooding.

Rescue teams were deployed across the affected areas, but as of now, no injuries have been reported, according to the Connecticut Emergency Department.

Meanwhile, the storm also impacted New York City, where heavy rain and high winds led to flash flood warnings across Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, and other parts of the city’s northern and western regions.

The adverse weather conditions resulted in road closures, with local police advising motorists to avoid affected areas.

Transportation disruptions extended beyond the roads. Train services between New York and Philadelphia were temporarily halted due to the storm, causing significant delays for commuters.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported average delays of two and half hours for flights departing from Boston Logan International Airport as the storm continued to impact air travel across the region.
