EU seeks to renew import tariff suspension for Ukraine
Move in line with bloc's commitments to support Ukraine for as long as it takes, says EU Commission
ANKARA
The EU Commission on Wednesday proposed extending for one year the suspension of duties and quotas on imports from Ukraine.
"This is done in line with EU commitments to support Ukraine for as long as it takes," it said in a statement.
These Autonomous Trade Measures (ATMs) have been in place since June 2022 to assist the Ukrainian economy during Russia's war on its smaller western neighbor, which it launched in February 2022.
The commission today proposed renewing the suspension of import duties and quotas on Ukrainian exports to the EU for another year, while reinforcing protection for sensitive EU agricultural products.
Among EU members, Ukraine's neighbor Poland has complained of Ukrainian goods threatening to undercut local producers.
