ISTANBUL

Iran announced on Monday the resumption of flights to Europe as of Jan. 31 after a three-month suspension.

Hossein Pourfarzaneh, the head of Iran's Civil Aviation Authority, said that the first flight will be from Tehran to the French capital, Paris, according to the state news agency IRNA.

He noted that the inaugural flight will be operated by an aircraft belonging to Iranian airline Iran Air Tours.

On Oct. 14, the European Union imposed sanctions on certain individuals and entities, including Iranian airlines, citing the alleged transfer of drones and missiles from Iran to Russia for use in Ukraine.

The following day, Jafar Yazarloo, the spokesperson for Iran's Civil Aviation Authority, announced that Iranian airlines had canceled their flights to European countries.
