ATHENS

Italian police arrested 13 prison officers in Milan over charges including mistreatment and torture of juvenile inmates, local media reported on Monday.

Another eight officers at the Cesare Beccaria Juvenile Penal Institution were also suspended from public office as part of the investigation conducted by the public prosecutor's office in Milan, according to state-run news agency ANSA.

Charges include mistreatment, participation in torture, and attempted sexual violence against at least one prisoner, according to the agency.
