Albania marks 110th anniversary of independence

BELGRADE, Serbia

Albania on Monday held nationwide celebration to mark the 110th anniversary of its independence.

The celebrations began with an official ceremony in the southern city of Vlore, where Albania declared independence in 1912.

The ceremony was attended by Albanian President Bajram Begaj, Prime Minister Edi Rama, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and other high-ranking officials.

Citizens also showed great interest in the celebrations in Skanderbeg Square in the capital Tirana.

Many citizens applauded the hoisting of a massive Albanian flag.

The Independence Day, also knows as “Flag Day,” was also celebrated in Kosovo and North Macedonia with various activities.

Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Sentop sent a congratulatory letter to his Albanian counterpart Lindita Nikolla on the occasion.
