The UK welcomed the US decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran and reiterated its calls for the restart of negotiations, the British foreign secretary said Wednesday.
"We want to see negotiations restart, a comprehensive settlement and full reopening of the Strait without restrictions or tolls," Yvette Cooper wrote on US social media company X.
The statement came after US President Donald Trump said that Washington would extend its ceasefire with Iran to allow time for Tehran to prepare a "unified proposal" following a request by Pakistani officials.
"Any return to hostilities would be a major setback for the region, the global economy and cost-of-living," warned the foreign secretary.
The ceasefire that was initially announced earlier this month was set to expire on Wednesday.
