BELGRADE, Serbia
Bulgaria will conduct a snap general election, its seventh in three years, in October, the country’s President Rumen Radev announced on Monday, as political parties failed to form a coalition government.
The announcement came after Prime Minister candidate Dimitar Glavchev, tasked to form an interim government that would govern the country until the early elections, presented a 19-member interim Cabinet, including one deputy prime minister.
According to Radev, he will submit the list to the parliament on Tuesday so that the ministers can take their oaths, and he will sign a decree for early elections to be held on Oct. 27.
"I expect the new interim government to make the necessary arrangements for the snap general elections to be held in a fair and transparent manner,” the president said.
The snap election comes as political instability has continued in the country for more than three years.
The turnout in the last snap election was 34%. This rate is expected to drop even further in the new election.
