ANKARA (AA) – The president of Bulgaria gave an exploratory mandate on Friday for the formation of a new government to the There Is Such a People (ITN), the largest political party in the country’s legislature.

Rumen Radev handed the degree to Plamen Nikolov, ITN’s prime minister-designate in the presidency building in the capital of Sofia, according to the official Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

“Bulgarian people are looking forward to hearing your nominations for government ministers within the constitutional timeframe," Radev told ITN officials as he handed them the mandate and stressed the presence of serious problems in the country.

"It is an honor and responsibility for me to be here. I will do anything I can to meet the constitutional deadline," said Nikolov.

Bulgarian law states that ITN has one week to go back to the president with an official government nomination and then put it forward to Parliament for approval.

ITN emerged as the largest party from snap parliamentary elections July 11 by obtaining 24.08% of the vote and winning 65 of 240 seats in the legislature.

Nikolov, 44, has a doctorate in the philosophy of law, politics and economics from Sofia University. He is an entrepreneur with more than 15 years experience in business development and project management.
