BERLIN
The death toll from Friday's train accident in southwestern Germany rose to five, local authorities said on Saturday.
Some 44 passengers were injured after a train derailed in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region of Bavaria, Manfred Hauser, the police chief in the region, told reporters after visiting the site where the deadly accident took place.
Meanwhile, Digital and Transport Minister Volker Wissing said that search and rescue efforts continue in the area.
Joachim Herrmann, the interior minister of Bavaria state, had previously said that a total of seven people were missing and that they could be among the injured or they might have left the scene following the accident.
