Emails threatening bomb attacks were sent to numerous institutions – including schools and a kindergarten – in Lithuania for the fourth time this week, local media reported.

The public prosecutor’s office, the airport in the capital Vilnius, as well as three schools and one kindergarten are among the places that got the threatening emails, said Julija Samorokovskaja of the Vilnius Police Department, according to public broadcaster LRT.

In searches of the places that got the emails, police teams did not find any suspicious objects or persons, she noted.

The broadcaster added that investigations are underway to find out who sent the e-mails and why.

Lithuania, a small Baltic nation of less than 3 million people, is a former Soviet republic, and has been in the spotlight since its much larger neighbor Russia last February started a war on Ukraine. Lithuania has been a member of the NATO military alliance since 2004.
