'We discussed ways to boost our support to Ukraine, increase pressure on Russia,' EU foreign policy chief says after meeting with Canadian foreign minister

The EU and Canada on Monday discussed improving security cooperation and ways to boost support for Ukraine.

Posting on X after her meeting in Brussels with the visiting Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said: “The EU-Canada partnership is strong, dynamic, and built to last.”

“Together, we discussed ways to boost our support to Ukraine, increase pressure on Russia, as well as opportunities to strengthen our security and defence cooperation,” she added.

Joly, for her part, said on X: “In Brussels, I had the opportunity to sit down with my European Union counterpart, Kaja Kallas, to exchange views on global issues, including Ukraine, and to discuss opportunities for closer cooperation between Canada and the EU."
