EU leaders to hold special summit on Ukraine on March 6
'We are living a defining moment for Ukraine and European security,' says EU Council president

ISTANBUL
European Council President Antonio Costa announced Sunday that European Union leaders will convene for a special summit on March 6 to address the ongoing war in Ukraine and broader European security concerns.
"I have decided to convene a special European Council on 6 March. We are living a defining moment for Ukraine and European security," Costa said in a statement on X.
Costa said discussions with European leaders revealed a shared commitment to strengthening European defense and ensuring Ukraine’s long-term security. He pledged to work closely with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU member states to prepare concrete decisions ahead of the summit.
The announcement comes as EU leaders push to assert their influence in diplomatic efforts amid concerns over their exclusion from key US-Russia discussions on Ukraine. Some fear that a potential deal could be reached at Ukraine’s expense without significant European input.
Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron hosted a meeting in Paris with several EU leaders to discuss the evolving situation in Ukraine and coordinate a unified European response.
