The EU on Thursday urged Russia to not use alleged drone attack as "an excuse" to escalate its war against Ukraine. 

"I know about it. I saw the news. I heard (Ukrainian) President (Volodymyr) Zelenskyy. And President Zelenskyy stated very clearly that Ukraine is not involved in these attacks," EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell told reporters ahead of EU ministers meeting in Brussels.

"We urge Russia not to use this alleged attack as an excuse to continue escalating the war," Borrell said, adding that this can be used to "justify more conscription of people, more soldiers, more attacks on Ukraine."

"The most important thing is that we should continue to support Ukraine militarily, politically and economically," he continued.

On Tuesday, two Ukrainian drones attacked the Kremlin residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian presidential press service said on Wednesday, in what it called a "terrorist" assassination attempt.

Ukraine immediately denied any involvement in the attack.

The Kremlin, later on Thursday, claimed that the alleged drone attack was decided by the US.

White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby denied claims that the US was behind the drone attack on Kremlin, saying Moscow is "lying."
