Incident takes place in northern Parma city, local media reports
LONDON
At least one person was killed and 11 others hurt after a fire broke out in a nursing home in the northern Italian city of Parma, local media reported on Monday.
The fire killed a 62-year-old woman at the Casa di Arianna care home run by the private Avitas cooperative, according to the state-run ANSA news agency.
Some 11 others were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation and none of them are in serious condition.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
"I wish to send a message of condolence to the family of the victim and my thoughts to those who are currently in hospital due to smoke poisoning," said Parma Mayor Michele Guerra.
