French and Norwegian foreign ministers discussed security in the Strait of Hormuz and the implementation of the US-Iran ceasefire, according to a joint statement on Monday.
Jean-Noel Barrot and Espen Barth Eide agreed on the need to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz “in accordance with the Law of the Sea.”
The ministers highlighted the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in line with international maritime law.
They also agreed on the need to ensure implementation of the US-Iran ceasefire framework, including efforts to extend its scope to Lebanon.
Both sides stressed that maritime security remains a key priority amid regional tensions affecting global shipping routes.
The talks were held as part of broader coordination between France and Norway on regional stability and security cooperation.
The ministers also reviewed the strategic partnership between the two countries, including cooperation in defense, green industries, and the space sector.
France highlighted its commitment to close cooperation between the EU and Norway.
On wider international issues, both sides reaffirmed their support for Ukraine in what they described as Russia’s war of aggression.
