German chancellor tests positive for COVID-19
Olaf Scholz’s test comes back positive on Monday after returning from 2-day visit to Gulf States
BERLIN
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz tested positive for COVID-19 and has been in self-isolation, his spokesman said on Monday.
Scholz’s routine test came back positive Monday morning, and he is currently experiencing mild cold-like symptoms, Steffen Hebestreit said in a statement.
“The public appearances will be canceled this week, the chancellor wants to virtually attend the internal meetings and the scheduled meeting with the premiers of the federal states,” he said.
Scholz visited Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar over the weekend and returned to Berlin on late Sunday.
His test report came negative for COVID-19 on Sunday, according to the spokesman.
