Google Cloud said Tuesday that it resolved the issue at its UK site which caused an outage affecting banks, businesses and the courts.
"We have resolved a disruption to Google Cloud services at a third-party facility in our europe-west2 cloud region due to a power event," a Google Cloud spokesperson said in a statement.
In updates early Tuesday, Google Cloud had said several of its cloud services were "experiencing elevated errors and intermittent network failures in europe-west2 region," referring to its UK cloud facility in London.
The company blamed a "power event" for the widespread service disruption, saying the incident has been mitigated and recovery efforts are underway.
It apologized to those affected and thanked customers for their patience.
Financial services providers Revolut, Lloyds Bank, and HSBC were among those affected, while home improvement retailer Screwfix and delivery company DPD also experienced problems, according to Downdetector, which tracks user reports of service disruptions.
Millions of Revolut customers had reportedly been unable to access their accounts or make card payments following a system outage. The digital banking platform serves more than 80 million customers globally, including 13 million in the UK.
Several UK public-sector websites and court services, including NHS England, HM Courts and Tribunals Service and the government’s official website, appeared to be affected by a wider service disruption earlier Tuesday as they were listed on DownDetector.
A similar internet outage occurred exactly a year ago, on Oct. 20, 2025, when more than 1,000 websites and apps, including Lloyds Bank and Snapchat, were taken offline.
