Greek meteorological service warns of adverse weather conditions

ATHENS

Greece’s National Meteorological Service (EMY) has warned against adverse weather conditions that are expected to begin affecting the country from Monday.

The western and northern Greece, as well as the central region of Thessaly which was battered severely by the floods brought by Storm Daniel in mid-August, will experience heavy rain and local storms on Monday, EMY said in a statement on Friday.

The entire country is expected to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday but the heaviest is forecast to be seen in Thessaly, the statement added.

In a related development, an inter-ministerial meeting was held on Friday at the Climate Crisis & Civil Protection Ministry.

Following the meeting, the ministry advised citizens to be careful, take measures to protect themselves from risks arising from the occurrence of the severe weather.

The statement also revealed that the ministry has informed the relevant state agencies and regions and municipalities of the country to be on increased civil protection readiness.
