Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday called for investing in "skilling and reskilling” of human resources to meet the challenges of the "artificial intelligence (AI)-driven future."

“Loss of jobs is AI’s most feared disruption. But history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology. Its nature changes and new types of jobs are created. We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future,” Modi told the AI Action Summit in the French capital Paris.

Modi highlighted the large language model that is being built and a “unique” public-private partnership model for pooling resources.

He called on attendees to ensure access to everyone but especially to Global South “where the capacities are most lacking - be it compute power, talent, data, or the financial resources.”

The prime minister dismissed the claims AI could replace human intelligence, saying: “No one holds the key to our collective future and shared destiny other than us humans.”

He also added that India would like to hold the next AI Action Summit.

The two-day international summit, co-chaired by India, brings together heads of state and government, tech titans, academics and policymakers from over 80 countries to discuss ethical, political, and economic challenges surrounding AI.

High-profile participants also include German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and US Vice President JD Vance, among others.

The French president earlier announced a €109 billion ($112 billion) investment in AI over the coming years.
