A pro-migrant NGO operating in the Mediterranean accused Italy of spying on the organization.

Mediterranea Saving Humans said Wednesday that a survey was conducted via Paragon Graphite spyware, after a request by the government and authorized by the attorney general at an appeals court in Rome.

Maintaining that the surveillance was legal but illegitimate, Mediterranea Saving Humans said: “Anyone who works to save lives, to help women, men, and children imprisoned in concentration camps or abandoned in the middle of the sea, for this government, is a danger to national security.”

It emphasized that it would not give up and continue operations for “a world where the Mediterranean is no longer a horrible mass grave but a sea of peace and solidarity between the peoples who inhabit.”
