ISTANBUL

Kyrgyzstan on Thursday advised its citizens to temporarily refrain from traveling to Russia as Moscow continues to implement additional security measures regarding foreigners entering the country.

A statement by the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said that the country’s embassy in Moscow recommended its citizens, who do not have compelling reasons to enter the country, to temporarily refrain from traveling to Russia.

The statement said the decision has been taken “in connection with the continuation of the additional security measures introduced on the territory of Russia and the regime of enhanced control over the passage of foreign citizens across the state border.”

On March 25, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry issued a similar travel advisory for its citizens to refrain from traveling to Russia, three days after an attack at the Crocus City Hall in the Moscow region killed at least 144 people and injured more than 550 others.

Since then, Russian law enforcement agencies have been carrying out more thorough checks of foreign citizens entering the country.
