ISTANBUL
The French president announced the release of French man Olivier Grondeau, who was detained in Iran since 2022.
“Olivier Grondeau is free, in France, among his loved ones! We share the immense joy and relief of his family,” Emmanuel Macron said on X Thursday.
He also thanked the state services, the French ambassador in Iran, and the Crisis and Support Center of the Quai d'Orsay for their “decisive action.”
“Our efforts will not waver,” Macron added, urging for the release of Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, French nationals also detained in Iran in 2022, according to Radio France.
Olivier Grondeau was arrested in Iran in 2022 while on a world tour and later sentenced to five years in prison for espionage and conspiracy against Tehran.
