A magnitude 5.2 earthquake was reported in central Greece on Friday, the Geodynamics Institute of National Observatory of Athens said.

The quake jolted Elassona town and its epicenter was located 16 kilometers southwest of the town at a depth of 8.5 kilometers (5.3 miles), the institute said.

No casualties were reported yet.

The same area was hit by a strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake last week.

Akis Tselentis, the head of the Institute, said the tremor was part of the sequence of aftershocks that followed the last week’s quake, according to the state-run Athens–Macedonian News Agency.

He added that similar aftershocks should be expected for an extended period of time.
