ATHENS

Metro workers in the Greek capital announced a new strike for March 28, said local media on Friday.

The strike is a warning to draw attention to the safety issues in the railway network in Athens, said the SELMA union representing the workers, according to the state-run AMNA news agency.

"For us railway workers, it is the right time, in agreement with the demands of French workers and after the tragic accident in Tempi, to highlight the consequences of the privatization policies, the anti-labor laws on pensions, on labor agreements, of the poverty and unemployment that now threatens the entire planet," the union said in a statement.

The union also stressed that they are in solidarity with the French workers and people who took to the streets against the “privatization, and pension reforms which lead poverty and unemployment .”
