BELGRADE, Serbia

North Macedonia’s health minister on Friday stepped down after a deadly fire ripped through a COVID-19 field hospital in the country’s western Tetovo city.

Announcing his resignation for “moral reasons,” Venko Filipce said that the latest tragedy has affected him very much.

Meanwhile, Deputy Health Minister Ilir Hasani and the director of the Tetovo State Hospital have also resigned.

At least 14 people died and more than a dozen were injured after a fire broke out at a makeshift hospital for COVID-19 patients in the town of Tetovo on late Wednesday.
