Russia issues order limiting powers of Interpol

ISTANBUL

Russia’s Interior Ministry on Friday issued an order limiting the powers of Interpol in the country.

According to the order, which was posted on the Russian government’s online portal, but is dated March 31, Interpol will now only be able to conduct surveys, make inquiries and carry out personal identification.

It further stipulated that the bureau can no longer conduct operational-search activities in Russia.

Interpol, or the International Criminal Police Organization, is a 195-member global police coordination agency headquartered in France, which Russia joined in 1990.
