A Slovak parliament delegation led by two of its deputy speakers arrived in the Russian capital Moscow on an official visit, state media reported on Sunday.

The delegation led by Andrej Danko and Tibor Gaspar, deputy speakers of the Slovak National Council, arrived at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport, a representative of the delegation told Russian state news agency TASS.

According to the report, the delegation will first hold talks with Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of State Duma, the country’s lower house of parliament, on Monday.

Later, the two deputy speakers will also meet with Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko, it further said.

It added that the visit of the delegation, which comes as a five-year deal between Moscow and Kyiv on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine expired on Jan. 1, will last until Wednesday.

Slovakia has been critical of Ukraine’s decision to not renew the deal on the transit of Russian gas, which Kyiv said it took "in the interests of national security."

On the same day of the deal's expiration, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico argued that the deal's expiration would have drastic consequences for the EU.
