LONDON

Police in Sweden on Monday said that a bag they found on Sunday at the annual Stockholm Culture Festival contained explosives.

The police said in a statement: "The police assess that the bag, which was found on Sunday, at Kungstradgarden contained an explosive charge.”

Police evacuated central square where the five-day cultural festival was being held and Swedish bomb squad destroyed the explosive device immediately.

Erik Akerlund, local police chief, said that an investigation is underway and that only after full examination at the national forensic center “we will be able to say whether the dangerous object was functional”.

Police is examining the CCTV images and is interviewing witnesses and at this moment there are no suspects.

There was also no mention of who might be a target of the bomb plot.
