US President Donald Trump on Thursday voiced strong support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban ahead of the country’s upcoming elections, urging voters to back him for re-election.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described Orban as a “strong and powerful leader.”
“He fights tirelessly for, and loves, his Great Country and People, just like I do for the United States of America,” he added.
He said Orban has worked to protect Hungary’s national interests while maintaining law and order, adding that relations between the US and Hungary reached “new heights” during his presidency.
“I look forward to continuing working closely with him so that both of our Countries can further advance this tremendous path to SUCCESS and cooperation,” Trump said.
Reiterating his endorsement, Trump said he had previously backed Orban in the 2022 elections and was “honored” to support him again.
Trump also called on Hungarian voters to turn out and support Orban, describing him as a “true friend” and “fighter.”
Hungary is set to hold elections on Sunday, April 12.
