Puzder was US President Trump's original pick for labor secretary during his 1st term
ISTANBUL
Former fast-food executive Andrew Puzder has been named the next US ambassador to the European Union, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.
"I am pleased to announce that Andrew F. Puzder will serve as the next United States Ambassador to the European Union," Trump wrote on social media platform Truth Social.
Puzder previously served as the CEO of CKE Restaurants, Inc., the parent company of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s. In his announcement, Trump praised Puzder as "a successful attorney, businessman, economic commentator, and author."
Puzder was initially Trump’s nominee for labor secretary during his first term but withdrew after admitting to employing an undocumented housekeeper and failing to pay taxes on her wages.
"During his 17-year tenure as CEO, Andy led the company out of serious financial difficulty, allowing it to survive, become financially secure, and grow," Trump said. "Andy will do an excellent job representing our Nation’s interests in this important region."
