Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday expressed gratitude to Portugal for its military assistance and commitment to continued support in 2024 during a conversation with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro.

In a statement shared on X, Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s appreciation for Portugal’s solidarity in difficult times. “We deeply appreciate that, in such challenging times, Portugal stands with Ukraine,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader noted that both sides discussed their stance on ending the war with “reliable security guarantees” for Ukraine and Europe. He also highlighted the importance of unity and coordination with European partners in addressing the conflict.

“We also agreed on our plans and further engagements. We are working together for a shared future,” Zelenskyy added.

Portugal has provided military and humanitarian support to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The country has supplied military equipment, training, and aid to Ukraine in its defense against Russian forces.
