Russia registers 23,300+ new virus cases

ANKARA

Russia on Monday reported 23,315 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, up from 22,851 cases a previous day, the country’s emergency task force said on Monday.

The total number of people infected with COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in the country reached 3.42 million.

Some 436 more people died from COVID-19 over the past day, down from 456 fatalities reported on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 62,273.

The total number of recoveries reached 2.80 million as 21,786 more people recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours.

Russia started its vaccination campaign in mid-December with locally developed Sputnik V vaccine. According to TASS news agency, some 1.5 million people have been vaccinated in the country.

The country on Sunday announced one person was infected with the new variant of the virus first detected in the UK, but has now recovered.
