WMO says need for Paris Agreement 'more pressing than ever' after withdrawal decision of US
'We reported two weeks ago that 2024 was the hottest year on record,' says spokesperson, underlining importance of following Paris Agreement goals

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on Tuesday said the need for the Paris Agreement is "more pressing than ever," reminding the 2024 was hottest year on record.
"The need for the Paris Agreement is pretty obvious," spokesperson Clare Nullis told a UN press briefing in Geneva, responding questions on US' decision to leave the agreement under the new President Donal Trump.
"We reported two weeks ago that 2024 was the hottest year on record. We temporarily hit the 1.5 degree Celsius level at one point, an estimated 1.15 degrees above the pre-industrial areas," Nullis said.
"The need for climate action, the need for the Paris Agreement is more pressing than ever."
She also stressed that national governments has a key role to play.
