Australian radio station CADA was discovered to have used an AI host for a program for over six months without the knowledge of its listeners.

Australian Radio Network (ARN)-owned CADA has been airing the four-hour weekday program Workdays with Thy to listeners in western Sydney and on a podcast app since last November, according to Sky News.

After Stephanie Coombes of web outlet The Carpet wrote an article last week casting doubt over whether the host is human, a spokesperson for ARN confirmed suspicions that Thy is made by AI.

“We’ve been trialing AI audio tools on CADA, using the voice of Thy, an ARN team member,” the spokesperson said in a statement, according to the outlet.

“This is a space being explored by broadcasters globally, and the trial has offered valuable insights,” it said, adding that the trial underscored “the power of real personalities in driving compelling content.”
