France has become an EU country where the social media company X, formerly known as Twitter, has blocked the highest amount of violent and illegal content, according to a report published on Sunday.

The company's first transparency report on content control, requested by the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA), covers the period from Aug. 28 to Oct. 20.

The report indicates that deletions and suspensions for violent and hateful comments within X were most prevalent in France. Between these dates, 7,160 posts were deleted in Germany, and 7,743 posts were removed in Spain, whereas this number surged to 16,288 in France.

Among the content deleted in France, there were nearly 4,300 harassing messages, compared to over 1,000 in Germany and 1,200 in Spain.

Moreover, there were over 6,000 violent comments removed in France, as opposed to less than 2,000 in Germany, 1,100 in the Netherlands, and 4,100 in Spain.

The DSA, which came into effect in August, mandates major online platforms such as X, Meta, TikTok, and Google to take action in removing all illegal content and provide detailed information on their content moderation practices.
