Magnitude 4.9 earthquake hits eastern Türkiye
Later, less powerful 4.7 magnitude quake jolts Rize in northern Türkiye
ISTANBUL
A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck eastern Türkiye on Friday, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The epicenter of the earthquake, which took place at 10.46 a.m. local time (0746GMT), was Malatya's Dogansehir district at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.34 miles), AFAD said.
Later, a less powerful 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Hemsin district of the Black Sea province of Rize in northern Türkiye.
The tremor took place at 12.02 p.m. local time (0902GMT) at a depth of 12.85 kilometers (7.98 miles), according to AFAD.
No casualties have been reported for either quake.
