Microsoft 365 issue affects thousands of global users
Change within third-party ISP's managed-environment resulted in impact, says company
ISTANBUL
An issue at Microsoft 365, productivity software and cloud-based services owned by Microsoft, affected thousands of global users around the world on Thursday.
"We're investigating an issue where users may be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services," the account named Microsoft 365 Status wrote on X. "We're reviewing network telemetry and recent changes to our networking infrastructure. Additionally, we're working with a third-party ISP to understand the underlying cause."
It later said the company confirmed that a change within a third-party ISP's managed-environment resulted in impact, and noted that ISP has reverted the change and the company now sees signs of recovery.
More than 24,000 issues were reported for Microsoft 365 on Thursday, according to data from outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
While 75% of issues were about Outlook, this was followed by server connection with 17% and OneDrive with 8%.
Microsoft 365 includes online services such as Outlook.com, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.
It comes after issues with CrowdStrike in July, whose network update caused disruptions with Microsoft Windows operating systems.
